Almost naked!

Hi there,

It's been a little while since I posted last, but work and family has kept me busy. The Bullit is almost completely broken down and ready to have the paint stripped off. A big thanks goes out to my co-workers Cameron and Yale for their advice and specialty tools needed to finish disassembling the frame. The last thing to do at this point is to remove the pivot hardware and rear triangle. Once this is completed, the paint can be stripped and the new color applied. I'm hoping to accomplish this sometime in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

Who am I?

Hi there,

I should probably have gone over who I am and why I’m doing this project in my first post. However, since I have never blogged before I hadn’t even thought of it. My name is Troy Dyer and I am a happily married father with two young children; Josslyn (4) and Piercyn (2). I credit my children for my renewed interest in mountain biking as they both have bikes now and thoroughly enjoy riding them. I used to mountain bike on a regular basis when I was in high school and my freshman year of college. Unfortunately my bike was stolen during Christmas break my sophomore year and I never replaced it due to the cost and my other hobbies of off-roading and snowboarding. Since that time I have sold my Jeep, sold my Xterra and I have shelved my snowboarding gear. I never realized how busy you can become with work and family when you have children. It is an eye opener that I’m sure any parent can relate to. I find it very hard to find time to do my own thing, but every once in a while I get a chance. I am excited about this project because I am able to work on the bike in my garage close to my family and there is an extensive trail system near my home. There is also an up-and-coming bike park 15 minutes away and a very popular bike park 45 minutes away. This allows me the ability to get out and play, but be close to home. Well, I think that about covers who and why for now. I hope you enjoy this blog as I continue to post updates and pictures of my project as it progresses towards completion!

The adventure begins...

This is my first attempt at blogging so bear with me. I recently purchased a 2003 Santa Cruz Bullit 1.0 freeride full suspension bike on the cheap. The bike was a basket case with random parts installed and a broken front shock. However, the frame itself was in great shape, the rear shock is in good condition and it came with a nice set of Avid Juicy 7 hydraulic disk brakes. My plan is to slowly rebuild the bike over the winter so when summer comes next year I’ll have a fun freeride and downhill machine. The first phase of my project is going to be paint and decals. Once the frame has been stripped, painted and the original Santa Cruz decals re-applied I will begin to acquire used and discounted parts to build a fun toy on a budget. This will be an interesting adventure for me as I haven’t built a bike in over 10 years and things have come a long way since I last rode a full suspension bike, but here’s to having fun and learning as I go!
